Light Up the Life of a Refugee Child with Refugees International Japan

Support the work of Refugees International Japan (RIJ) while kicking off the holiday season by visiting the Marunouchi Oazo Building from December 4–10. This free event features the lighting of a thirty-foot festive tree and many musicians and singers will be performing. Performances are free, but all donations go to support RIJ's valuable work in helping refugee children around the world.

Refugees International Japan was founded in 1979 and has spent the past 28 years raising funds and awareness for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that work to help refugees around the world. RIJ has raised over $6,000,000 and provides grants of up to $25,000 to organizations while constantly ensuring that over 95 percent of the money they receive goes to actively help refugees.

In the words of RIJ president Jane Best, “Refugees International Japan funds projects around the world that assist and empower displaced communities through the provision of shelter, food and education. Refugees International Japan targets funds towards longer-term sustainable programs that help families regain their self-respect and prepare for the return home. In times of crisis we can also send urgently needed funds for emergency relief.”

To help keep costs so low, RIJ relies heavily on volunteers, and to that end, there are several ways in which you can get involved. RIJ has volunteering opportunities for those interested in sales and marketing, writing and editing, events organization and staffing, and publicity and PR. Anyone interested in contributing their time to this valuable organization should email: rij1979@kbf.biglobe.ne.jp or tel. 03-5500-3093.

Similarly, anyone who is interested in contributing financially to this organization, especially in conjunction with the Light Up the Life of a Refugee Child event can do so by contacting the Chair of Festive Tree, Keiko Koshino, at rij1979@kbf.biglobe.ne.jp
