Tyler Shine On Idol—November 10

Help support Japan based children's cancer charity, the Tyler Foundation at their upcoming event, Tyler Shine On Idol. Based on the ever-popular TV show American Idol, Tyler Shine On Idol will take place at club Dash-G in Takeshiba. It features ten preselected artists who will compete with accompaniment from Tokyo guitarist Ben Benfield and his band on Nov. 10. Judges Sir Tim Rice, Kamasami Kong, and Brenda Vaughn will narrow it down to three, and the audience will select the ultimate winner. Following the competition, event emcee Lisle Wilkerson will DJ as everyone dances the night away.

Get a jump on selecting your favorite artist by visiting http://tinyurl.com/2epo3d, where you can watch videos of each finalist singing a cappella. At the same time, help support both your favorite artist and the Tyler Foundation by donating pledges in the name of artists through the website. The person who pledges the most to one singer before Nov. 10 will win a dinner for two at Citabria in Aoyama.

Audience members can expect not only to be well entertained, but also well fed and watered! Fujimama's will be providing the catering, and Yellowtail, 42 Below, and Coca Cola will be providing refreshments.

Tyler Shine On Idol runs from 6:30–11:30pm with dancing into the night. Reservations required, ¥10,000 per ticket, including dinner and drinks. For more information about the Tyler Foundation and this great event, visit www.tylershineon.org.

The Maple Leaf Ball
All that Glitters... Canada

From glittering diamonds and shimmering gold to sparkling lakes and dazzling snowdrifts, this year's Maple Leaf Ball theme highlights Canada in all her magnificence. Join the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Japan for an elegant evening featuring Canadian cuisine and wines, prizes, and a chance to win two round-trip business-class tickets to Canada courtesy of Air Canada.

The evening will begin with a champagne reception and silent auction display followed by full-course dinner designed by Nolan Ledarney, Chef de Cuisine at the Canadian embassy in Tokyo, in cooperation with the Westin Hotel. Guests are then invited to let loose on the dance floor with live music from the “Hitmen.” For those who work up a thirst, Ontario's Steam Whistle microbrewery beer will be available. In addition to the silent auction, a charity raffle where guests can support Seeing is Believing, YMCA Children's Fund or HOPE International will be set up in the silent auction area with proceeds of the raffled item going to the respective charity.

If you're relatively new to Tokyo, or if this is your first time to the Maple Leaf Ball and you're interested in meeting people in a similar situation, the CCCJ's Young Professionals' table might be the best table for you. If you have young children, a room in the hotel with babysitters will be available at no extra charge for ball guests.

The Maple Leaf Ball promises to be a great evening filled with lots of shining moments, so mark your calendar and register for the Canadian community's social gala of the year.

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (CCCJ) is a member-driven, not-for-profit organization where members can be actively involved in strengthening Canada and Japan's relationship.

They have been representing and serving Canadian business in Japan since 1975, offering a variety of activities and opportunities for networking and developing business contacts. The chamber boasts over 300 members and is the longest-serving Canadian Chamber in Asia.

Tickets for this elegant event are available by contacting the CCCJ office at 03-5775-9500 or online at www.cccj.or.jp.
