In the Eyes of Tommorow's Generation
Kids discuss environmental issues with words and pictures.

Following the publication of two articles written by students at Global Kids Academy (GKA) about global warming in the May 18 issue of Weekender earlier this year, students at Tokyo YMCA International School (TYIS) sent us some of their insightful responses. To complete the dialogue, we asked GKA's young authors to respond to the letters and address questions and comments brought up by the TYIS students. Following are excerpts from the correspondence that went back and forth between the students.

The letters are illustrated with winning entries from The 8th Annual Environmental Children's Drawing Contest supported by UNICEF Tokyo, where children from around the world submitted two-dimensional artwork created to fit the contest's theme of “coexistence between man and nature”. The contest's goal is to encourage children to look at their global environment through drawing and this year, 20,748 children aged 7–15 from 53 countries took up the challenge! The Environmental Best Prize winner was eight-yearold Tsuboi Yuki from Tokyo who says about his image of a penguin near Tokyo Tower, "My favorites 'the penguins' came to Tokyo. That made me happy but what about them? We want to protect our beautiful earth by ourselves!" For more information about the contest and its winners, visit www.childrens-drawing.com.
