The Weekender Golf Competition
Marie Teather describes fun, food, and friendly competition in Ibaraki.

The sun was hinting at a scorching day ahead as over sixty of Tokyo's business elite, families, children, and even three dogs, headed towards Ibaraki before breakfast, for the latest installment of the Weekender Golf Tournament. Held at the scenic Windsor Park Golf and Country Club, the tournament is the golf event to be seen at and with just some of the many prizes donated from the Park Hyatt, the British Embassy, and Magellan Financial Planning, competition was rife but still jovial.

After teeing off, competitors played the first nine holes of this challenging and hilly course before stopping for lunch at the clubhouse restaurant. On completion of the final and 18th hole, hot and tired golfers were welcomed back to base by the Weekender team who provided well-deserved beers and a BBQ, which was lit by two of the resort chefs.

Prizes were awarded to all participants (non-golfers and booby-prizes included) by Caroline Pover and for first place, a ride in an ex-military jet fighter plane in Cape Town was well received. Proving yet again to be a great day out of the city, participants and their families will no doubt be out in full force for the next Weekender Golf Tournament.
