High-tech tales of adventure at the Goethe-Institut.
by Marie Teather
A quick glance at any atlas will reveal that one third of the earth's surface consists of vast deserts and yet those who have ventured and explored some of this remote land remain few and far between. Michael Martin, explorer, geographer, and photographer, has, however, spent 20 years of his life riding through some of the most barren and hostile desert landscapes on the planet.
Riding simply on his trusty BMW R1150 and with partner and camera woman Elke Wallner, his most recent venture—a colossal five year expedition crossing through some of the most extreme living conditions in Arabia, Iran, the Middle East, Australia, South America and Africa—has been documented in over 80,000 stunning photographs, 2,200 of which will be presented at the Goethe Institue on August 1. Well-used to presenting in front of crowded auditoriums for some of the most prestigutious of institutions, Michael has been presenting his vibrant and award-winning slide shows since the age of fourteen, including one to the Royal Geographical Society in London, making him one of the most talented and respected speakers in Europe.
A collaboration with AV Studio Art of Vision Multimedia and using some of the most advanced programming techniques and projection techniques available today, accredits this slide presentation to be the most elaborate ever produced. Deserts of the Earth, a high tech and modern day equivalent of travelers tales around the camp- fire, promises to be a truly unique evening with one of the worlds most talented and exclusive of adventurers.
